Hailey Beiber’s Natural Beauty Hack Is Great for Acne-Prone Skin

Sometimes the best beauty hacks are ones we would never think of, but in theory make sense. Yesterday, Hailey Beiber shared on her Instagram stories while vacationing on her road trip, she noticed a difference in her skin after spending time in saltwater. “My skin is always best when I’ve spent time in the ocean,” she wrote on her Instagram stories.

We chatted with Dr. Joshua Zeichner to see if this beauty hack is indeed a fact and it turns out saltwater does have a major effect on our skin. “Ocean water contains high levels of salt, which has a drying and exfoliating effect on the skin. There are anecdotal reports of ocean water clearing up skin conditions like acne. The salt helps remove excess oil from the skin to dry out pimples,” Dr. Zeichner confirms to Teen Vogue. In addition to that, he says that saltwater may make pores look smaller by helping to remove excess oil from the skin and from within the pores themselves.

He continued to point out properties in the ocean that relate to benefitting the skin. “Sodium chloride, the main type of salt found in the ocean, also has antimicrobial properties, and may help lower levels of acne-causing bacteria on the skin,” he says.

The excess heat during summer can invite new skin issues from heightened acne to heat rashes, and more. There are so many beauty hacks under the sun that include DIY masks, certain diet changes, and more, but you’d be surprised at the relationship between nature and beauty. “Sometimes nature is the ultimate beauty hack :),” Hailey wrote on her Instagram stories.
