Did James Charles Break Social Distancing Rules to Film His New Collab?

Beauty influencer James Charles has come under fire once again as fans question whether or not he broke social distancing rules to film his latest collab video.

On Tuesday, May 5, James dropped a new YouTube video featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race royalty Trixie Mattel, who previously starred as a guest judge on his new competition series Instant Influencer. The collab was cute and simple: The two artists created their go-to makeup looks and chatted about some beauty world tea.

At first, it seemed that they had filmed the video directly after the episode’s filming (per James’s Twitter, filming for season one wrapped back in late January) but, as Cosmopolitan UK noted, something Trixie said midway through the tutorial has fans confused.

“You know what the tea of quarantine is? I’ve been doing the YouTube videos and filming with Katya and it’s really an odd feeling to get in drag and not leave your house,” Trixie said. “Yesterday, I had to film during the day and stream at night and I was sitting in full drag at my kitchen room dining table eating a salad like a normal person, I felt like a sim.”

From the sounds of it, it appears that this video must have been filmed recently; as quarantine and shelter in place orders were not in place back in January. Neither James or Trixie have commented on the matter, but fans on both Twitter and Reddit are understandably upset. “Why Trixie breaking quarantine to film with James Charles,” tweeted one user while another said, “Not Trixie Mattel breaking quarantine to film with James Charles…. of all the things to do lmao.”

Neither James or Trixie has commented on the matter yet. Watch the video and judge for yourself below:
