Matte vs Dewy

The difference between matte and dewy makeup is simple: They’re opposites of each another. Matte makeup focuses on getting rid of excess oil and leaves skin with a velvety finish. Dewy makeup, on the other hand, allows you to add radiance and luminosity to your look.

Tips to Achieve a Dewy Makeup Look

While anyone can flaunt a dewy look, it’s all a matter of personal preference. For instance, those with oily skin will most likely want to mattify their look because the last thing they want is to appear extra shiny.

If you’re all about the glow, follow these tips on how to flawlessly achieve that dewy finish:

1.Prep your skin.

First things first: Always remember to properly cleanse your face and moisturize. Having fresh, clean and hydrated skin is the first step in getting the glow you’re aiming for. Skin care should always come first so take good care of your skin by staying consistent with a routine. When you have good and healthy skin, your glow will naturally follow.

2. Create a smooth base with a primer.

Once your skin is well-prepped, the next step is to apply a primer to soften the texture of your skin or create an illuminating base. Primers are great because they extend the longevity of your makeup, minimize the appearance of pores and control excess sebum. You can also use color-correcting primers to even out your complexion.

3. Go for natural coverage.

For a natural glow, go for base makeup that’s not too heavy. Cushion foundations are perfect for natural makeup; they aren’t as heavy as full coverage foundations and allow your skin to shine through. When it comes to a dewy makeup look, your foundation should look like your skin instead of a separate visible layer. Blend your foundation with a beauty sponge for a sheer and luminous finish.

4. Don’t go crazy with the concealer.

When picking a concealer, choose one that’s a shade lighter than your skin tone so that it brightens up your face. Be careful not to go overboard with your concealer! Apply it strictly for concealing purposes to let the rest of your skin breathe. Only apply concealer when necessary like on spots and blemishes, or to cover dark circles.

5. Add some colors and lip gloss.

Don’t forget about your eyes, cheeks and lips! Add a pop of color to your look with vivid eye shadow colors with a shimmery finish instead of a matte one. For blush, aim for a natural flush with shades that match your skin tone. To top it all off, apply some lip gloss for extra dewy-ness.

6. Highlight, highlight, highlight!

If you want to glow from across the room, highlighters are what you need! Apply highlighter on the high points of your face and on areas where light naturally hits, like the cheekbones, the brow bone, the bridge and tip of the nose, and the cupid’s bow. You can also add some highlighter on your forehead and chin if you don’t already have oily skin and, voila, glowy skin!

 7. Take it easy with the setting powder.

Dusting face powder across oilier parts of the face will help absorb excess sebum but you can skip this if you don’t need it. Try to leave most parts of your face powder-free; you want your skin to stay dewy but applying powder all over will only block the effect and you’ll end up with a matte finish instead.

8. Use a facial mist.

Facial mists come in handy when you’re in need of hydration. They’re a great moisture pick-me-up, and can also be used to set your makeup once you’ve completed applying your new look.

9. Squeeze in a sweat sesh.

Exercising not only improves your overall health but also does wonders for your skin. Self-care is one of the top wellness trends of 2019 so make it a goal to squeeze in a workout once or even a few times a week. Every time you do yoga, go for a run, or hit the gym, you’ll be blessed with a natural post-workout glow!

10. Load up on H2O.

Did you know that more than 60% of the human body is water? The easiest way to maintain plump and dewy skin is to stay hydrated. Better start counting those eight glasses a day!

Overall, the key to achieving a dewy glow boils down to how well you take care of your skin, especially keeping it hydrated, and choosing the right makeup products that work for your skin type. Are you ready to get your glow on?
